I have been told to feed my puppy pineapple, it will stop it eating its own poo. Does anyone know if this works?or is there anything else to try.She only does it when im not there.

ive read that too. its worth a try.

The kennel staff where I work use courgettes in their food which seems to do the trick...

My friend's akita used to do this all the time and from his experience, it did seem to do the trick. Theres an enzyme in pineapple called bromelain which breaks down protein strands and apparently, results in a semi-sour after taste, but I'm not willing to test the theory!

Can I ask what you're feeding the dog? With mine I've always thought something is missing for this to happen.

My Chihuahua does this relentlessly and i tried putting black pepper on his pooh but it made no difference! Infact all i did was season it for him because he still ate it.
Ive aparently got to try adding things to his diet or chilli aparently works directly onto his pooh but im reluctanat to try this as he has a sensitive tummy!
Any suggestions on what to do or advice on if he is needing something in his diet would be great!

It's a horrid habit they can get into and seems to be quite common...and then they so want to give you a kiss eek:...Ozzy used to eat any poop..but i think his was more because he was ill....
i have also read that you should not make the poop appear valuable by picking it up right away.

I don't think it works tbh. The reason puppies do this is because they've seen their mother clean the litter this way, and have learned to do this. I know of a GR female, who caught her brother's poo directly as it was being produced, before it reached the ground. She had done this for over a year! eek:

The only way to stop this behaviour is to clear up all the poo as soon as it's been produced, and any that is found, should be removed immediately.

Sorry, if you tell me pineapple works, then you'd be a first for me in over 40 years with dogs.

Ive heard of Pineapple of papya, some say it does work, thankfully not a habit ive encountered with my lot so never had to try it.

Otherwise there is something called Stool Repel Um, I believe pets at home may do it, you certainly should find stockists by googling it. There was another one brought out that I think was available via vets but cant remember the name unfortuanately and I believe it was quite expensive.
