Question How long/often does your dog sleep?

Wesley is just 5 months old.

He goes to his bed at about 22:00 - 23:00 depending on us and when we turn in for the night. No matter what time he goes in his room he's up at 07:30-08:00. Then has some play time, and usually is back asleep at 09:30 for a couple of hours. And has a few short naps in the afternoon.

Do dogs sleep longer as they get older?
Or am I doomed to never have a lie in again for the next 12-15 years?

Ive tried having him on the bed with me to sleep when he goes back to sleep at 09:30 but he gets all excited and usually pee's on the duvet!

Re: How long/often does your dog sleep?

Benny and Oscar are both 10..

Benny has always been a sleeper ...If hes not out sniffing or sniffing round the kitchen hes asleep but he does get up early for his breakfast..

Oscar used to be very active and really never stopped but thats got less in recent months..He still gets up early and if I dont wake up in time he will stand and give me the BC stare from the side of the bed...That penetrates even sleep and as I stir he will lick my eyes open! YUK

Remy gets worried if Im not up by 7 or 7,15 and starts to paw at me..

Lie ins??? Cant really remember what that is...

Mine sleep from about 11...in Penny will pace outside my bedroom door if it's not open for her by that time...fizz will just sleep wherever she is, they obviously nap in the day but they do seem to have bed time routine...fizz mostly sleeps through but will wke up occasionally , tex sleeps through penny will jump on me in the night if she wants to play...and does wake up for a wander during the night too, but i've been insomniac for years so i take that into account with their seep patterns.

Re: How long/often does your dog sleep?

Ollie wakes up at 6am for his breakfast and toilet outside. And then he has a little play and then sleeps until his walk at around 8-10am. After his walk, he has a little play and then sleeps until his afternoon walk at around 1pm. After that, he has another little play and then sleeps until his dinner, at 5pm. He then sleeps all evening until he has to go to bed at around 9-10pm.

So when Ollie isn't eating, walking or playing, he's sleeping basically. Its good that he is so laidback and quiet in the house really.

Re: How long/often does your dog sleep?

Kilo loves to sleep!

He gets up at about 0600, has a quick toilet walk, then breakfast. He then generally sleeps for about two hours until his walk.

After his walk and a small play / potter he sleeps all day until about 1530 - 1630 then goes for another quick toilet walk, has a play / potter then has dinner at around 1730 -1800.

After dinner he sleeps until about 2000 when we go for a walk. Once we get back; he sleeps until 2230 or so when he gets very reluctantly taken out for a last wee, then goes straight back to sleep until the morning.

When he came to work with me, he slept all day under the desk!

Re: How long/often does your dog sleep?

Ok I need to stop moaning about getting up at 0800!

0600?! in Winter, thats a horrid time of day. Im quite pleased with Wesley's pattern now, he's been sleeping in his room all night since we brought him home at 8 weeks, used to get up about 0600 for toilet but now he calls us when he needs the loo.

One day, one beautiful day, he slept untill 10:00, I had to go and wake him because I started to worry he hadn't woken me up earlier. He was just being a lazy bones =D

I love early mornings ...it has taken a while for Kilo to sleep until 0600 - 0630. I used to get up at 0445 or so to give him a good walk before work and the routine was a hard one to change so I am grateful for the lie in .

Dogs sleep 17 hours a day. Off and on. They do lie in as they get older. I can lie into 9.00 - 10.00 nowadays.

Re: How long/often does your dog sleep?

My Izzy is coming up to 6 months now. Depending on our bed time she will go to bed about 10-11ish. Last wee just before that. We try not to have lie ins cause she's in a crate so wouldnt be able to tell us if she needs to go out. She can hold on til 8am (whether shes asleep or not i dont know), any later and she doesnt make it outside.
If im in, she'll nap a bit in the morning, and more in the afternoon, but she certainly doesnt seem to sleep during the day as much as other dogs!
