Malecollie/springer wees on floor when he sees me
Hi, I have just adopted from a friend a springer spaniel and a collie springer cross, the collie cross is having problems he is four and the springer is seven.
My friend rehomed them as they were being left alone for long hours due to work and no one was walking them, they were toileting in the garden. They are lovely dogs and have settled in well in the three days they have been here, however when I greet the collie cross, even if i sit on floor,he will wee, even if he is laid down too ! They wont toilet on a walk only in the garden, dont know how to change it, Also when the family go to bed they are quite upset and whine, should I ignore them,or keep coming down and trying to reassure,i even left radio on.They are not used to walks at their old house, but now and go out together at about 0530 am , then one goes out about 9 on the school run and one goes out at 3 on the school run. Finally both dogs go out about 10pm. Both dogs in particular follow us everywhere, the collie cross regards the spaniel as his mum and does not like being separated from her, which is why we walk him first as that is ok,but not when she leaves him, until yesterday they shared a bed , but now they have chosen to use the second bed, a duvet on the floor, a bit more room for them to lie down. They are lovely dogs, ( i have soft spot for collie spaniel cross) I realise they have lost their original owner ,and have a new house , but any advice with these few issues would be great.thank youx |

Re: Malecollie/springer wees on floor when he sees me
You don't say how long you've had them.
The weeing issue sounds like settling into new surroundings nerves to me and should right itself once he becomes accustomed to you, new home and routine. Its the same with only toileting in the garden, that's what they've been used to doing for the last few years. A bit of time and patience is needed. |

Re: Malecollie/springer wees on floor when he sees me
We had this with a friends dog, a collie mix when we looked after her for a few days she would roll over and pee when ever we entered I found that if i opened the door and was as non confrontational as possible, yawning, looking away not directly approaching her, she gained confidence.
I kept her ball by the door and would come into the house and ignore her really, by sitting on the sofa then start playing with the ball, then when she came to investigate give her a treat and some affection. When she was more relaxed i would always shout Nellie its me, before going into her house which meant she knew the balls and treats were coming and she would come to see me straight away, however whenever she went belly up I woukd look away or do something else as I didnt want to encourage her to do it. Im no trainer though, i just tried what i could to get through the week, hopefully someone with some specific advice will come along. Good luck!

Re: Malecollie/springer wees on floor when he sees me
well for my experience, spend a lot of time. until they can recognize your scent, and when they like pee or poop just carry them and run in the bathroom or pp room. it takes some time though, now my dog is peeing/pooping at the side of toilet bowl everytime i go to the bathroom, saves a lot of cleaning.

A sign of submission. I heard others suggest it's the excitement at a reunion, one of ours used to do this a little when I came home from work at about 6-12 months old. Not seen since.
