getting your dog to stay close while off lead

Hi all,

Im juts after a few tips on how to get my 10 month lab to stay close while he is off lead... he sometimes runs ahead, and Its somtimes a bit too far than I would like......

any tips on getting him to understand I want him close buy.....

you need a good recall or sit to whistle command. If he strays to far make him sit or recall. I prefer the sit to whislte command, when he sits, go over to him and praise or treat. About every 1/10 do a recall.
He should get used to a distance that he is allowed. This is how I started now I just say "that'll do"
