he is fine with other dogs and had been previously when we walked him, really not bothered about other dogs (or breeds) or cats either...will have a quick look and then carry on trotting along... The lady that did our homecheck for RGT have put me in touch with a lady here in my town that has a ex-racer that she rescued from the same place so she is going to come over to my house saturday morning and see if we can get Blue out with her Harry, fingers crossed he enjoys a bit of hound company! ![]() I havnt even attempted to take him out last night or at all today...I will leave it untill saturday now and hope that he is really ready for a walk by then! ![]() Might just bake some yummy peanut butter cookies to see if that will help him on his way! ![]()

Re: I need some help!
Hi, my mums dog had exactly the same problem he just stopped mid walk turned and ran for home one day!! It turned out to be a phobia of not being at home he would watch the world go by out of the front room window i suppose to 'guard' the house in his own way although he never barked or became aggressivewhen people/dogs walked past. We didnt push him to go out for walks but did put his lead on everyday and go out for training in the garden and built it up slowly to walking up and down the front garden.
When he was comfortable with this we started putting him in the car and just going for a drive so he got used to being away from home for 15 minutes and built it up to going to friends house to play with their dogs in the garden... he soon forgot his fear after about a month and slowly started small walks near home.... he completely got over his phobia and walks anywhere now no problems hope this helps ![]() |

and just suddenly put on the anchors and wont go out since. Hopefully the confidence from walking with another greyhound will work, the other one needs to be confident and stable though with no nervousness, because if it is it can work the otherway and make yours more unsure still. If he did come from a rural setting and has been plunged into urban living, it might be an idea to try desensitising him to sounds. www.soundtheraphy4pets.com do all different CDs for treat and prevent sound phobias, including road and traffic noises. The idea is that you play then at barely audible level whist playing, relaxing, training eating his dinner, then very slowly at the dogs pace you turn them up a bit at a time over days, weeks depending how the dog copes, so slowly they get desensitised to the sounds and at the same time associate them with fun or relaxation not comething scary. The other way Ive tackled things too is to ensure walks become stress free and fun again. If he is Ok in the car, you could start taking him in the car to quieter areas, and as he gets better and starts to walk around again, then gradually build up from say a park, to a short burst of a side road, then longer on road work, then a slightly busier road, building up only when he seems relaxed and happy with the previous type of walk that you were doing. Thats how I tackled a similar problem with one of mine, who couldnt cope with the outside world very well. At his worse, wind in the trees spooked him, a plastic bag blowing, tyre noises on wet roads and the sssshhh sound it makes. So you can imagine what a busy road with a thundering lorry can do. Things we wouldnt even think of can spook a dog sometimes. I would say that something possibly did for him to be OK for a week, and then this sudden really big reaction. Dont know if you saw the thread was only early this week I think of a dog. The owner had a power cut or power surge, and it set all the house alarms off. Just the one time, after that her dog wouldnt go out and walk either. So sometimes it does only take the one thing or one incident.

Re: I need some help!
Thanks everyone, I think we have more than a little bit of a problem on our hands...he wont walk, not even with another greyhound
I cannot get him out the house at all. I spent an hour this morning trying with another greyhound, treats, toys etc trying to coax him into a walk but its a no go...he will NOT walk anywhere or with anything I so want him to enjoy walks with us We tried to get him into the car so that we could take him to the park but he wont get in there either...i really feel out of my depth and I dont know how to help him ![]() Edited to add, I think things are getting worse as he has just had a majior growl at my youngest daughter who rolled over towards his bed (she wasnt touching it or him) Help! ![]()
