Re: Help !!!!

Rustle a packet and offer him a treat to tempt him in - cheese or ham always works for mine.
Sounds like he's made quite a fun game of it all.

I would spend time training him to come in and out on comand using rewards such as treats or a game.
Do this for 5 minutes a couple of times a day then ion the evenings he should start to come straight in.
In the mean time I would not let him out in the dark on his own I'd take him out on a long lead so you can keep control.
Sled dog hotel likes this.

Re: Help !!!!

Take him out on a lead, wait for him to do his jobs, then bring him in. When you've done this a few times, take him out on the lead, then drop the lead but stay with him till he's done his jobs, pick up the lead and take him in. Then drop the lead and leave it trailing. Then if he doesn't come in when you call you can just pick up the lead and take him in. Make sure he gets a reward whenever he comes in at the first call.

Has he always been like this, or just started doing it recently? Sometimes when they hit a certain age, much like a human teenager they can start to push their luck, so if its a fairly new thing could be that. If he has always been like it then have you ever learnt him recall and to come when called?

Also if you get angry or fraustrated that he wont come, it will be apparent in your voice, making him less likely to come. Go out and take a really nice treat,
cheese ham sausages, hotdogs are good, show him the treat and walk ahead and saying come, hopefully she should follow you. Do that for a few days exactly the same but make sure you use the command come too, you can repeat it a few times while he is following you, but he doesnt actually get the treat until you are inside. If/when it works for a few days, stand by the back door and call his name/come and see if that works. You have to keep you voice light and happy though too. If that works then try it from hust inside the back door. Find out his most favourite treat and use it only for this.
