Dogs sleeping on my bed

I know it's my fault that the dogs sleep on my bed, I should never have let them on it from the moment I got them, but now I want them off and I don't know how.
I've bought them all different types of beds but they just destroy them. I've had soft ones and they ripped all the stuffing out, plastic ones which they just chew and just put rugs down but they rip them up.
They seem to know that if they have their own bed, they can't sleep on mine.
They have crates but if I put them in them overnight they just whine for hours, non-stop. I've tried keeping them out of the room, but again they just whine.
I can get them to stay off the bed whilst I'm awake, but as soon as they think I'm asleep, they're back up.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Michael

Michael, it's a tough one. Maybe you just need to go through the pain and keep them in the crates for a while. Give them a bone or a treat, and make a fuss of them in the mornings. Maybe they'll stop whining after a while.

Which is preferable: A few days of whining, or dogs on your bed for ever?

Re: Dogs sleeping on my bed

When the dogs chew/rip up their "bed" do they sleep in it? Dogs will circle a few times in rough grass to flatten the area thus 'making their own bed'.

As mentioned above you need to set the rule; dog sleep in dog bed, and enforce this rule. Yes there will be whining, and dogs testing this strange new rule that has changed their way of life for (dog's POV) apparently no good reason.

Carry on as you have described - let the dog keep the torn bed, add an old towel etc (charity shop?) - if there is whining I might get up once and issue a sharp verbal Tcccckkkkkk ! type noise - then ignore any further noises - use headphones.

During the evening a few hours prior to sleep; some exciting play, then a walk, then home a few hours before sleep time - a tired dog will more likely sleep than moan about where to sleep.

Re: Dogs sleeping on my bed

It may well be a case of going back to basics with an off command. It will of course, take a long time, as they have got used to your bed is my bed, but it can work given enough time and effort.

As said if they tear up their beds, so what? An old duvet is just as good as you don't want to spend a lot on beds to be destroyed. The dogs don't care if their beds are shredded, so long as they are comfortable.

No, they don't sleep in it, they just throw the the "fluff" all over the place and drag it all around the house.
It's the same with towels, sheets, blankets, ect.
I'll try wearing them out a bit more, they usually have about an hours walking the evening, (on lead) but I might give them an hour or so off lead at the park, running around and playing.
Thanks for the advice.

They've got off, they just wait for me to fall asleep, then jump straight back up and I wake up in the morning falling off the bed. I've got 2 small staffs and a King size bed, so even if they do jump up in the night, there should be enough room but the seem to want to be where I am.

They've destroyed so many duvets, I haven't got any left. I don't want to buy more because they last a few hours, then there done

Re: Dogs sleeping on my bed

Now I am happy I only got a tiny dog who is not taking away that much space in bed

If you want them off your bed then you should be very consistent. Don't let them on at all, not even to get cuddles.
I would place the crates into your bedroom, just so that they can still be with you while sleeping.
Make the crates really comfy with nice soft pillows so that they can be really comfortable in them. Even if they start whining, don't react to it. And don't let them out of their crates while they whine (even if you are annoyed because you can't sleep). But that would teach them to whine so that they can get out. Eventually they will be quiet and fall asleep. After some nights and they got it, you might just leave the doors open, but make sure that they are not coming up your bed, again be very consistent and put them down whenever they jump on.

It will defo take quite some time to make them understand, but they belief they are allowed on it (because they always were), so now you will need to be patient in trying to make them understand they can't come on any longer.
