I, too, have been lucky enough to see a hyena in the wild (near Kruger) but only briefly. Also saw a black-backed jackal on the same day! I am qualified to field guide over in South Africa

I can't remember the name but yes, it's 'he who comes with fire' I think? It's a really good documentary about the relationship between lions and hyenas. Really highlights the individual behaviours, some of which are really surprising!
