VID: habituate, DIShabituate, & sensitize
4. Habituation and Sensitization - YouTube
habituate:
the brain conserves resources; we cannot perceive EVERYthing, we focus on critical data.
the tactile sensation of our clothing rapidly habituates.
DIShabituate:
a new stimulus via the same sensory mode;
or a formerly-familiar stim that we've forgotten, & encounter again:
EX, the smell of lilacs each spring.
sensitize:
to become highly-sensitive to a particular stimulus after being exposed to it traumatically;
to be extremely alert [hypervigilant] in a novel situation & react to any stimulus intensely.
