Advice please - puppy toileting at night

Hi all,
I've had a gorgeous lurcher pup for two weeks now and he's 10 weeks old. He's great but is waking up approx 3 times a night to go to the loo. Then he wakes up at 5am and that's it, he's awake. When he wakes in the night I let him out, he does his business then goes straight back to sleep. I've been sleeping on the sofa bed for two weeks in order to let him out but as you can imagine, I'm exhausted. Is this normal and when will he start sleeping longer between wees? I limit his water in the evening and let him out at 11pm but he's still waking every hour and a half thereafter.
Advice anyone??

Try letting him go for longer periods before you react. If you keep getting up at certain times it will become a habit.

Re: Advice please - puppy toileting at night

I think it will get easier very soon. Our puppy is 10 weeks old and he is now going from 11 till 6.30 in the morning im amazed. Over a 10 day period we extended the time every night but 20mins, 30mins and then the last few nights he just made a big jump to going all night. How do you toilet train him during the day?

Is he crate trained? as that has been key for us as he has never been to the toilet in his bed/crate so he wants to hold it in. Extending a little every night seems to have worked...Tonight will be the first night that Lola my older dog wont be in the cage next to him so all may change tonight but fingers crossed he will be ok!

Re: Advice please - puppy toileting at night

It will get easier, but do agree with grandad it will become a habit to get up in the night,i got my pup a staffy at 8 weeks, and he was still using the paper overnight till about 14 weeks,as he never woke me during the night to go out.
i did remove his water at 7pm after his garden time,we then go walkies around 10 where he has a wee in exactly the same place every night and this cracked it

So would concider maybe removing his water compleately early evening & going to bed as knowing your there to let him out (When he says) will become a habit very hard to break,

Thanks for messages. I'm definitely getting the idea that my reacting to him wining means he's not attempting to hold it in. I'm trying to get hold of a crate and will try that.

Re: Advice please - puppy toileting at night

Tilly still wakes me up at around 2am and i have let out into the garden or she will tiddle in the bedroom. I have never had to wake in the night with any of the other dogs i have had and they held it until morning.
She is 2 1/2 now so i think its just going to be a way of life.
