Re: Toilet Training
Heya
It took about 2 weeks to train Zach which was quite quick considering he was always going between my mums house and mine during the day so had two places/gardens to get to know! We did the usual: * Took him out as often as we could including every hour, after every nap, playtime, meal, etc etc. We put him in the same spot and said "Wee wee" when he stopped sniffing and started crouching. Now when we say "weewee" he automatically goes ![]() *After every successful outdoor toileting we praised and I mean PRAISED!! treats, games, cuddles, lots of attention. *If he was caught in the act in the house we'd say "no" as we picked him up and took him outside even if he was mid flow. We never ever told him off because we knew this would only make him scared of going in front of us... indoor or out... We cleared up the mess quickly and saw it as our fault. That was pretty much it and it worked a treat... ![]() |

Re: Toilet Training
It can be a frustrating process, and some dogs learn much faster than others. When I got my first GSD many years ago I was living in a flat (Mad I know) but she was brilliant. I now have a house and big garden but my little westie has taken much longer to get the idea. She is fine as long as I leave the back door open but its freezing.
You really do need patients with this and you need to watch her every second that you can. |
