Re: SO CALLED dog trainer FINED

We have many dogs that come into the centre and they can be very out of control.
I did read the link.
I do not agree with these collars and i do not want to offend anyone that does, it is my personal opinion that they are OTT but i know it is shared by my colleagues. Training takes time love and patience.

Re: SO CALLED dog trainer FINED

That link made interesting reading DTP thanks

They do look awful at first glance but I can also see how if used only in the most extreme cases by the most experienced professionals, they would be effective and not cruel.

However as we have seen even some "professionals" don't seem to have a clue what they are doing (see OP) and I would hate for a novice to see it as some sort of quick fix for their training problems

I agree with dpt they can be a useful tool in certain circumstances, realistically speaking when you are presented with a fully grown adult dog weighing in excess of ten stone, who wants to kill anything that moves be that human, canine or any other living creature, and on the other end of the lead you have someone who weighs less than their dog, so physically cannot hold it, something has to redress the balance, and sadly a treat wont do it.

USEquineChiro is on a distinguished road
Animal Chiropractic (McTimoney)

Hello,

I hope this isn't too far off message, but I wanted to clear something up on a relevant forum like this one.
I used to endorse the McTimoney Chiropractic College in the UK. I have for many years. That is until I heard from a (to say the least) very disgruntled student who was treated rather poorly and unfairly by this institution. I read with great concern what this student had to say and I no longer endorse the McTimoney College in any way. In fact, I would advise those seeking a chiropractic education to look elsewhere. I won't get into specifics here and I won't name names. But I don't take back my endorsements lightly without first having researched the facts. I would like to hear from others who care to voice their opinion on the McTimoney College.

The theory is not quite the same. The prong collar works on the 'half check' basis, ie it will only tighten so far, therefore only apply so much pressure. The CM Ilusion collar is kept high up on the most sensitive part of the neck. The choke chain can tighten completely and therefore cause more pain and, as we see from the article, injury.
I would never use any of these. There has to be a better way than strangling the dog into doing what you want.

Did the so-called trainer have to pay the vet bills for the pup he hurt?
