Exclamation nervous puupy

My 13 week old puppy is so nervous and scared that she is always shaking. She is NOT hit or mistreated by us. If your voice is to high or if you are telling her no then she hides in the corner with her tail between her legs. She is frightened of all people.

What can I do ? We have had her 4 weeks now and she is no better. I feel so sad seeing her little face.

Oh dear, was she like this when you went to pick her from the litter?

I'm not expert the only advice I can give really is common sense - be very patient, play lots of games, give lots of treats for happy relaxed behaviour etc

Whatever you do, do not soothe or nurture her nervous behaviour, this will only make her worse.

How old was he when you picked her up, how many in the litter?

To build her confidence I would suggest you clicker train her, you'll find lots of resources and info here:

Karen Pryor Clickertraining| dog training and cat training info, books, videos, events

Also make sure you're crate training her as this will make her feel more safe and secure in her new home, also when you have guests she can go to her crate to feel safe until she's ready to come out.

While building her confidence make sure you always stay calm, keep your voice calm, keep your body movements slow, and don't fuss when she's nervous. If she sees you being calm and relaxed it will help her to become calm and relaxed.

Have a bowl of treats in each room that she has access to, during the course of a day, whenever she is calm/settled, throw her a treat. Gradually she will come to you for a treat, when she does praise (but stay calm), and give her a treat.

To help her relax around people, don't let guests fuss her or give her any attention until she is settled. Even then don't let them approach her, ask them to throw her a few treats, she will gradually approach herself to get a treat. When she does guest should give her a slow gentle neck rub and praise.
