I have an 11 week old Staffordshire Bull Terrier, I know he isnt going to be house trained by this age though, He's really good when he's in the kitchen which is his play area and bed he always goes on his pads, When i take him into the living room he knows where his pad is in there but still goes on my rug im at my wits end with it, I don't know wether he's rebelling because he has only been out of his cage for a few hours at a time for the past couple of days but i need some serious help with this as he can go outside next week and im struggling Please help

Re: Please Help

First of all I would do away with the Pads, they can confuse them as it gives mixed messages that its ok to go in the house still. If you have a garden he should be fine to go out there to toilet. Crate training can be an aid to toilet training as the theory behind it is that a dog will not soil its bed or immediate surrounding area, but they still have to be taught where to go.

Try taking him out every 30/45 minutes, when he starts to go give it a name, eventually they associate the name with going and you can use it as a toilet cue word later. When finished lots of praise like its the best thing his ever done and give him some food treats. They usually need to go after drinking, eating, playing and sleeping too, so pop him out them. Look for sniffing, circling and scratching at the floor usually signs they are looking for somewhere to go, so get him out quick then. They dont always do this at first though, as they dont always recognise the need to go our realise too late in the early days. If he has an accident dont tell him off, as they can get nervous about going in front of you, and likely to sneak off and do it or try too hold it too long. Any accidents clean up with a special peet accident remover as any smells left, can make them repeat it in the same areas.

Is he going through the nigh oK in his crate? If not and he is within sight and sound of you pop him out if he wakes or stirs, or you can set an alarm and pop him out once of twice in the night. Usually you only have to do this for a week or two, then soon seem to go through after awhile.

Buy only giving him opportunity to go outside, they soon usually catch on.

Re: Please Help

Pads sometimes have a similar feeling to a carpet, perhaps trying newspaper instead may be an idea?

Re: Please Help

Go and buy some Ariel Liquid ( the stuff that you put in your washer). Mix 1pint of warm water and a good dollop of the ariel liquid in a bowl and wash the area that your pup keeps peeing on. The ariel contains an enzyme that dogs dont like and they wont pee there. Its worked for me and 2 other pup owners that tried this.

Re: Please Help

how do you know 'he knows'? did he tell you that he knew?

if he's WALKED to the pad, while being out and peed there, fair enough.

some puppies at such a young age dont have the orientation to understand 'where the pad is' and how to get there... plus, no bladder control until 12 weeks (if not later).

if your puppy knew, he'd do it. he doesn't pee on your rug to piss you off (excuse the pun).

be a teacher to him, and walk him to the pad (if that's really what you want). otherwise, prevent, manage, and reward the puppy for doing the right stuff.

Re: Please Help

I notice that you say he has only been out of his crate for a few hours at a time over the past few days. Is there a reason why he spends most of his time crated?

Is he possibly so desperate if he spends most of his time in his crate that he just HAS to go as soon as he is let out?

Agree..... the Op is obviously a troll!

I wouldn't advise anyone else replying because it is giving them what they want.
