Building up distractions

I have been taking Cali and Logan to the field recently to do some training. I am pretty lucky that the field is very quiet, so have been able to take the training to the next level - from at home in a secure area to a wide open area. At the moment Logan is doing sit, stay and recall (really struggling with getting him into a down position, but that's another story) and Cali is working on sit, down, stay and recall. Also working on retrieval with Cali.

Anyway...today at the field, there was a group of lads playing football in the neighbouring football pitches when we started so I was quite happy as it added a distraction, but in the distance. Working away, both dogs doing really well...building up the stay/recall to a longer distance and longer time (from 15 seconds to 30 seconds...slowly but surely ) Was just finishing off, asked both dogs for a sit, told them to stay and walked off. Turned round to begin timing the stay and noticed a man had entered the field with his dog, off lead. The dog is racing towards my two, and the man is shouting the dogs name. Both my two turned round to see the dog running towards them, then turned back to me and completely ignored the dog!!!!! To say I was chuffed is an understatement Lots of praise, some liver cake and off we went, finishing on a very good high

I've managed a long stay for Cali at agility, sitting her at the start of a combination of jumps and walking to the end before calling her, and although other dogs are there, they are all sitting in the corner. This was a dog charging towards them, something neither of them can normally ignore Anyway, I'm going to shut up now, just wanted to share how chuffed I am with my crazy two
