What does this mean . Ignoring known people ?
We run our businesses from home and have an office manager who does our paperwork etc he is in every day and has known my 4 dogs since day dot.
If Im not at home when he comes in , the dogs totally blank him as if he is not there , but if I am in , they rush up and greet him like he hasnt seen him for ages. Why does this happen ? it may be a silly question but would be interesting to know the answer ? |

Re: What does this mean . Ignoring known people ?
He tells me that as he comes in when im not there they are laying in their beds and they look up at him and go back to sleep.
But when I am there they hear the gate go and they run like loonies to say Hi . He does get a bit miffed they blank him as he is always bringing them in goodies and he does like them and fusses them quite a lot. Fiona |

Re: What does this mean . Ignoring known people ?
Hmmm...is the time different? Does he come in on his own during the day, and come in when you are at home during the evening?
It may not be all the dogs who want to greet him so excitably either. It may just take one, and the others follow on as they think there's something interesting. Overtime, this has been reinforced. |

Re: What does this mean . Ignoring known people ?
Thanks Rottiefan.
Its the same time everyday he comes in. You are right about only one of the four wanting to greet him , but its not always the same dog , but is always one of the same pair either the older JR bitch or Dino aka Dimbo the boy Rottie , Bam Bam my Rottie bitch is a typical Rott wait and see and then decide if its worth it , she only feels like getting out to the gate if she can be arsed LOL Dino follows the JR bitchs lead (she is the oldest ) and loves the sound of his own voice, he is allowed a little woof but I dont allow it to go on (neighbours respect etc ). But he will sometimes thunder past me like a baby bull elephant to get out the dog flap to see him firsr. The pup just trundles behind everyone else wondering whats happening LOL. Fiona |

Quote:
When you're not there, they're settled down, quite happily lolling about and he interrupts that and tries too hard, fussing them, rather than letting them to come to him, once their interest is piqued? When you're there, they have "exciting" visitors and are more eager.

Encouraging good behaviours, whilst consistently avoiding practise of bad alternatives leads to extinction of the bad.
