Sunglasses?

i was told many years ago, that because dogs, can read your body language and particularly your facial experessions, to remove sunglasses/reactive glasses when training. Also remember that when humans are focussing we tend to frown and should remember, that, it gives the wrong signal to a dog.
Ever heard of that?

Re: Sunglasses?

Speaking from personal experience it has never made any difference to my dogs. I always wear sunglasses during the summer, otherwise I end up with a headache.

Re: Sunglasses?

Dogs are much better at reading body language then we are of theirs (and possibly ours) and don't take into account just one bit of the puzzle. Body 'language' messages are sent via a combination of modes and if you are worried that one hidden bit stunts your dog's understanding he is likely to very quickly adapt and use other parts (that may even be super subtle) to decipher your meaning - the effectiveness of this of course is directly associated with the contingent consequences.

But slightly off point, one of the socialisation set ups that I do in puppy class is various 'disguises'. One of these is that people wear sunglasses and reflective glasses (remember those mirrored sunglasses a la Top Gun c. 1985) as these are something that I have seen lead to reactivity in adolescence.
