Re: Corrections

I think it depends on the dog and what you intend to do with it.
I assume you are just talking about training from pup to adult and not problem dogs?

Encouraging good behaviours, whilst consistently avoiding practise of bad alternatives leads to extinction of the bad. So if dog sits 6/10 times it doesn't sit 4/10 times, encouraging with the right rewards (positively-reinforcing) enough for 9/10 times means it now fails to sit only 1/10 times, sit 10/10 means...

Re: Corrections

I'm assuming you are talking about gundog training. I find a verbal correction is sufficient.
However, if using a correction you need to be sure that the dog really is ignoring you rather than not understanding what is being asked of it.

Re: Corrections

I never physically correct my dogs, but if they are doing something silly or ignoring me I do try to get the growly cross voice, as soon as they stop that behaviour they get silly squeaky voice though, they are very good dogs who want to please so the growly voice rarely gets used.

Some people call this the flip flop of dog training. Low voice for an OI to stop unwanted behaviour and as soon as the dog looks at you turn into lovely squeeky "goooood doooog, come here" big stroke and praise.
Works for me
