Mobile phone for dogs..............patent???

I have a dog that will recall 100% on different signals.

Whistle - Acme 210.5 - 3 pips
Whistle - by mouth
Hand signal - open and closing hand
Arm movement - open arms
Verbal - Come
Physical - tapping thigh
Body movement - Kneeling down

So, most would agree,(everybody agree's) he is well trained..............So I thought (following on from many arguments on PF) I'd try an experiment.

The experiment went like this...........

Old mobile phone. taped to a dog collar, collar put on dog. (my dog has never wore a collar in his life, so took some getting used to) Phone put on silent/vibrate.
Sat the dog up and rang the number at the same time recalled using the acme whistle (3 pips) he came over and was treated. repeated numerous times until I eventually got recall without whistle. I am now working on diminishing the treats so that we have good recall (treated) partially good recall (not treated) This has worked so far in the garden and in a field and has yet to be tried out in the big wide world.

SO is this a "remote collar" and should I patent the idea? it's a bit cumbersome, could a chip be developed (any engineers out there?)
If I tape my whistle on to a CD, could my OH/friends/children press a button repeat my recall and the would the dog respond? Or could they just simply "dial the phone number" and the dog would "recall"
The possibilities of using this piece of equipment are quite thought provoking
Or has someone else already invented it?
Should I patent the idea? You heard it here first

Re: Mobile phone for dogs..............patent???

Sorry, my reply is nothing to do with your experiment but I am curious - if your dog has never worn a collar how do you get around this legal requirement:

Control of Dogs order 1992

The Control of Dogs order 1992 says that all dogs must wear a collar and an identity tag in a public place. The identity tag must show the name and address of the owner. Your dog must still wear an identity tag even if it is microchipped.

He's not in a public place al the time. 99% of the time he is on private land.

Re: Mobile phone for dogs..............patent???

Can you go one step further and teach the dog how to answer the phone too? I'd like mine to vet my calls for me

Ah right, how nice to have access to private land. My son has two dogs, both wear collars but no ID tags (and you can't tell him he should!) although they are microchipped.

Nice one! I'd not just use "treats" as reward, but what you did is exactly how I have added new alternative cues (like a whistle) to trained behaviours, with possibility of some remedial work only with cue, should the dog seem confused.

Another way to do this that might be interesting, would be mini-phone that perhaps has a special ring tone that's unique.
Then simply ring the number, treat the dog with very high value. Move away gradually using "Wait!" or accompice.

I guess your family members could have different ring tones, so the dog could learn to recall to different persons?
Nice to see what you can achieve with just a few treats and imaginination!

Encouraging good behaviours, whilst consistently avoiding practise of bad alternatives leads to extinction of the bad. So if dog sits 6/10 times it doesn't sit 4/10 times, encouraging with the right rewards (positively-reinforcing) enough for 9/10 times means it now fails to sit only 1/10 times, sit 10/10 means...

Well sorry if you feel that way, it's just some ppl have commented in past about "treats being solution to everything" and other ppl may try to. If you have done it, I don't understand how you can think it was intended as a lesson to you.

Other ppl will read the thread and treats alone may not work as well.
