Re: Help with Border Collie aggression
I had a look on their and found one lady but got no answer when i rang so will try later.
Heres the other lady I found and wondered what you thought of her? Katy Cropper Sheepdog Handling and Training - Welcome from Katy Cropper She seems to be very experienced, just called her and she would charge £150 to come out to the house for the training session. Its about an hour and a half drive so quite a distance. She said she would have this sorted in just one day but im not so sure im that confident? What do you guys think? |

Re: Help with Border Collie aggression
Rob has (as usual!) given some really good advice
![]() I would be dubious about getting behavioural issues sorted in a day (but I'm no expert!) although I definitely think there's no harm getting a behaviourist in to see what's going on. (Just make sure they don't mention the 'D' word! )I also think the vet's suggestion of training classes is a good one, although it doesn't have to be limited to classes, you can practice lots of stuff at home too to help keep him mentally stimulated. |

Re: Help with Border Collie aggression
Well we're surrounded by farms here, were we let him off at on his walk theres sheep there and he doesnt seem interested one bit. We did think about taking him back to the breeder as he does beginners classes for working with sheep which I thought would be good. Id also thought about agility with him but not sure where to get started or if hed be any good etc. My granda would like to give this woman a try out just to see what she says about his behaviour. Then we're going to take him to weekly obedience training classes, I think this is a much better option as opposed to getting him castrated in the hope that it works when it probably wont.
Moneys not really a problem here, we just want theis problem sorted out. The last thing we want is a visitor coming into the house to get bitten and having to get him PTS ![]() |

Re: Help with Border Collie aggression
That's a good thing then in the circumstances! Don't meddle with that!

Encouraging good behaviours, whilst consistently avoiding practise of bad alternatives leads to extinction of the bad. So if dog sits 6/10 times it doesn't sit 4/10 times, encouraging with the right rewards (positively-reinforcing) enough for 9/10 times means it now fails to sit only 1/10 times, sit 10/10 means... |
