Would be worth all the flip flops in the world!

Thanks for the help guys!
Try putting the flip flop IN the crate next The key is to try and gradually reinforce that good things happen when he goes in his crate

Re: Daytime Crate Problem!

I think you're on the right track (and there has been good advice from everyone else) so maybe he just needs time.

I didn't get a crate until McKenzie was nearly 5 months. She never cried when I crated her but I think that's partly because she was a bit older and a pretty laid-back puppy anyway. However, it actually took a few months before she would go in there voluntarily - now she will actually take herself off to her crate to sleep, abiet occasionally. Now she's 9 months and stopped chewing everything I'm going to try not crating her anymore

Re: Daytime Crate Problem!

One trick that works for me is that I fill both ends of a 'puppy kong bone' with yoghurt, freeze it and as soon as the freezer door gets opened my pup's there thinking woo hoo it's yoghurt licking time. I put it in his crate and he's straight on in there after it. It usually takes about 10/15 mins for a pup to accomplish it but it does defiately take their mind away and a great diversion tactic!

It also doesn't need that much yoghurt to fill the ends (you just need a fairly thick one as it's a bit messy to fill it sometimes). It's great for soothing teeth too.

Ooh I shall have to look one of those up!

Do you just use natural yoghurt?

Re: Daytime Crate Problem!

Well you would have to see what your dog likes first- but mine LOVES all kind of yoghurt. I normally bung the underneath ends with a bit of kitchen roll while I fill it and that helps in it not all falling out underneath!!! Then once done remove the kitchen roll and bung in the freezer fairly quickly.

The puppy kong bone has been brilliant I have to say, they're only about a fiver (I think) and fairly small but it's so versatile in what you can put in the ends. Like I said it doen't actually need much yoghurt at all but when it's frozen it's a good mental activity.

Re: Daytime Crate Problem!

Quick update - he was much better over the weekend, he even went to "bed" when instructed, although he popped straight back out again but he's deffo getting it.

Invested in a Kong which he just loves stuffed with a little banana and have been feeding him in there too....

Our trainer is going to lend us a divider as they think it could be a bit big for him at the moment - we bought a full size crate - which hopefully will help too.

So thanks again for all the advice - this forum rocks!
