Re: clicker training ?
Hi
I clicker trained our Lhasa from the moment we got him, I had heard all about their stubborness and wanted to start as we meant to go on! leo was 16 weeks when we got him. I dont know about using it alongside any other method, but with training I feel that consistency is the key really and maybe 2 different methods of training may confuse your pup? I found it especially useful in recall. Good luck ![]() |

Re: clicker training ?
Clicker is useful during the first stage of your dog training session. Once your dog start to understand what you are trying to ask him to do, then no need to use the clicker anymore. Dog training using clicker will help to faster your dog training session, you can use a word instead of clicker actually but sometimes your inconsistency using the particular word tend to confuse your dog. But by using clicker your command will be consistent.

Re: clicker training ?
Quote:
Everything you need to know about clicker training can be found here: Karen Pryor Clickertraining| dog training and cat training info, books, videos, events Briefly, clicker training involves the use of a clicker, which when clicked marks a desired behaviour as it happens. For example, if you were training your puppy the 'sit' command, you would click as your puppy goes to sit (so as his/her bottom is about to touch the floor, you would 'click and treat'. By doing this you have marked the desired behaviour and given the reward. Once your puppy understands that you want him/her to sit, then you would add your verbal cue 'sit' before he/she sits, and 'click and treat' as he/she sits. Timing is very important with clicker training as you have to click as the desired behaviour occurs, not before, not after. But once you have the timing right, then a clicker is better than using your voice to mark the behaviour. It is more precise than your voice and it always sounds the same. Once a dog has fluency in a particular behaviour; meaning he/she can perform the behaviour with speed and accuracy in many different settings and environments, the clicker can be phased out, and treats just given variably. This is a quick video intro to clicker training: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IC367wKGi4M Hope this helps Angela
