Advice Please On Something Different I noticed
Hi, so most of you read my problems with my dog Amy on my other thread entitled "help with a dominant dog".
Well I really could do with some more advice as I have noticed something over the past few days.
I've always known that she hates greyhounds and whippets the most. Interestingly though, she used to run around with a pack of 6 greyhound and greyhound crosses that a friend used to foster and rescue. In all the time she ever met and play with them, only once did she ever do anything. She bit the end of one of the dogs tails. The owner was fine about it though being a friend and knew all about the problems we had with Amy.
So where I've moved to now, there are two black greyhounds that live around here. One is on it's own, the other is blind and walked with another dog. I've noticed that over the past few days, whatever dog we walk past, be it spaniel, labrador or terrier, she doesn't really bother with them. She has a look and maybe a sniff of the air but otherwise she sits and watches me no trouble.
However, whether with myself or my partner or both of us together, I've noticed that when she sees one of the greyhounds she reacts to it. She's never been close enough to do anything to them though.
Here's an example. Just this morning I was walking her and I saw one of the greyhounds coming my way and the path is very narrow, so to avoid any situation I turned up another road which leads me back to my flat just the same. Amy didn't notice the greyhound and we walked up the road where she saw a squirrel. She obviously wanted to chase it but I told her to leave it and she did. I then realised the greyhound was following us up the road. But being behind I didn't worry as I thought Amy wouldn't notice. Then the greyhound barked (possibly at the squirel, I'm not sure) and of course Amy turned around and saw the greyhound. From that point on, until the greyhound wasn't following us any more, she kept turning round constantly to look at the dog. What I noticed though, was normally she has her tail high, ears pricked up forwards and she stands tall. This time her ear were pinned back and she wasn't standing so tall. I'm not sure about her tail, I didn't notice at the time whether it was up or down. She seemed to be in a bit of a panic like state - similar to what I have witnessed with my mom's rottweiler Jade when she worrys about a dog being too close behind her to her poorly legs.
I'm guessing you will agree with me when I saw she was probably frightened. The only thing I don't understand is why greyhounds? She has never been attacked by a greyhound as far as I can remember, and even made friends with the pck of 6 and our old next door neighbours greyhound. But any other greyhound or whippet and she hates it. She even hates greyhound crossbreeds, it's like she knows.
Any advice or ideas would be great, I know at that point there was no way I was going to get her attention with watch me and treats.
Thanks, sorry for the long post again!
