Nasty little Pup

Hi all,

We've noticed the last few days aggressive behaviour in our 8 week old Bichon Frise.

He wants to bite you and growls at you if he don't get his own way. He also rips up newspapers and anything else he can really.

We've been trying to train him by giving him his toy instead of bitting our arms but he just plays with his toy for a few seconds and then its back to bitting us .

Would this be because he's teething or just because he's being a naughty pup.

Obviously we want to stop this asap because he has very sharp teeth.

Look forward to your replies.

Darren

No, this is not agressive, it is normal puppy behaviour. I'm sure lots of experienced people will be in here with good advice soon. Biting/nipping is perfectly normal. When Oscar nips, I yelp and then ignore him. He HATES being ignored. It usually does the trick.

Re: Nasty little Pup

There is no such thing as a naughty pup........ The minute he does something your not pleased about say 'NO' in stern voice ( dont shout though) and ignore straight away for about 2 minutes not even any eye contact.. All puppies use their teeth to play - its natural..
Make sure he has lots of toys and he gets played with a lot.. He is still very very young so don't be too harsh on him..

Puppies should be encouraged to play bite so that you can teach them when to stop: The Bite Stops Here

Aww bless he's just being a typical puppy.

I can't really add to the advice you have been given, I used to replace my fingers in his mouth with a toy.

Re: Nasty little Pup

I never allowed play bite myself. I used to tell them in a stern voice NO Bite and give them a Nylabone or stuffed animal to play with. Sometimes when they got carried away I used a spray bottle. (Don't spray their face) It's normal for them to do this. I'm trying to figure out my 10 week old kitten who does this too! M
