Smile Re: Nasty little Pup

My rottie pup b has nipped me in total of 3 times. This is because on the 1st time she nipped me,I said NO! And put my hand in her mouth, grabbed her bottom jaw and pressed against the bottom jaw bit with my hand, it doesn't hurt them, it just tires them.. The 2nd time, I said NO! And folded my arms, turning my back to her, the third time I did exactly the same, that was 4months ago now, and she's 7 months.. She hasn't nipped anyone since, now she just paws for your attention!!

Re: Nasty little Pup

Hi, I'v got a 10 week old miniature yorkie who's doing exactly the same, he really growls and attempts to bite us, what i've found helpful is to hold him firmly under my arm at my side, i don't speak to him or give any eye contact until he calms down. he usually wriggles hard, growls and tries to bite my fingers but i don't react in any way until i feel him relax, then he gets a big fuss and i put him down, this does seem to calm him and we can play nicely for a while, if he starts being snappy again we repeat the hold, he does seem to be getting a bit better.

Re: Nasty little Pup

My boy was like Jaws on speed when we got him, and we were tearing our hair out thinking he would never stop being a biter so I know how you are feeling at the moment. But pleased be assured it is perfectly normal behaviour, and the growling sounds like he is excited and talking to you, something our boy also did. Logan is 18 months old now, and the softest dog you could wish to meet, so I promise you it does get better.

When we got our girl, the biting was the thing we were dreading most, but she hasn't been a biter at all, so every pup is different.

Good luck, you do get to a point where you can start enjoying your pup honestly

Re: Nasty little Pup

When we got Jack from the rescue home he had lots of problems as we expected, one of was nipping our legs when walking away from him ,but also biting more than just playing. We have an old Kong from our previous dogs that Jacks adopted and that stopped his biting habits, but also allows us to take it from him when playing without any reaction.we still have a long way to go ,but after all he`s only 7 months old and never had any proper attention.

Don`t give up.
