Susan is on a distinguished road
Enthusiastic boxer!

Hi everyone,
We have a gorgeous spayed female called Flo.She is 18 months old. She is boisterous and will jump up strangers but by going to every training course since she was 12 weeks old and with LOTS of input we are winning this battle. We have absolutely no problems at home with her. Our problem is her recall off the lead. On our own with no one around she waits for us and never runs off. She comes when called and sits in front of us for a treat. However, if there is any one else around ,animal or human, we could wrap our selves in tripe and have pork chops round our neck and she still shoots off to them. It is embarassing and a problem. We have no control over her in this situation and have to go and get her. Some owners understandably are very sniffy about this. Can any one help! Thanks

Re: Enthusiastic boxer!

I love boucy boxers however I can understand not everyone feeling the same way.
Have you tried a long line - get a light weight long rope, several meters long, and attach it to her collar. Let it trail on the floor and when you call her step on the end so she cant run off (I would knot the rope at regular intervals to make this easier and so the rope doesn't slip from under your foot). Then if she doesn't come back apply a gentle but firm pressure on the line and very gently lead her back to you. And give her a treat once she's back as you would normally.
She should soon learn that she may as well come back, once she is coming back no matter what with out you reeling her in stop using the line.
Hope this works for you.

Re: Enthusiastic boxer!

a typical boxer pup, keep going to the training classes she will get there in the end.
try putting a line on her basically a long rope with a clip on the end make sure you put some knots in it, then if she looks like she is going to run off stand on the rope call her back give a treat.
it will take time with her, boxers seem to not have many brains when it comes to the fun, they love to go see everyone and to play untill they are older they may calm down some.

Hi Susan,

She has selective hearing on the recall then

I would suggest a long line for recall training when there are distractions around:

This is my response to another member with a similar problem.

Hope this helps
