Re: exercise for pups

Wowwww

The dog has been in the home three days!

It has to get used to all of the new people smells sounds.

He's 12 weeks old and been getting an hours exercise a day in three sessions this is about right. A good guideline for planning exercise vets recommend the following, begin at 3 months and add 5 minutes of exercise per outing per month old.

3 months = 15 minutes
4 months = 20 minutes
5 months = 25 minutes
6 months = 30 minutes

With the biting I would spend time with the dog and other family members and for now you give the commands. You may all use the same words, but do you all use the same tome, dogs don't really understand the words but more the tone and sound. Let him get used to you all kids give off excitement they squeak and jump about they dog does not know the words but the sounds are giving him loads of reinforcement.

In a busy house I would consider using a crate this gives not just you a break but also the pup. They need loads of rest to help their growing the crate gives them their own space and time.

Also remember that mental exercise is more tiring than physical exercise so give him some thinking games, there are some food toys that are great for this sort of thing.

Remember every dog is different and every owner is different, so you will get confused as nearly every owner and trainer will do things slightly differently. one good tip in the thread is about socialisation if his abs are completed get him out and about let he meet people dogs traffic stairs livestock everything you can, this will help no end the brain at this age s so easy to work with and they soak up loads of experiences that they we never forget.
