answering back!?!

lexie is probably a typical 10mth old beagle bitch ( i hope!!) but training is not easy, probably me as much as her! recently when she is not getting what she wants or is frustrated with training she does this thing where she makes a collection of wee noises (kinda whining growly moany half barks) then takes a couple of steps back and lets out a high pitched bark. is this her basically telling me to F off? is this normal? cuz i kinda feel that her doing this is quite a bratish behaviour and you wouldnt accept it from a child!

Re: answering back!?!

Yep, Holly does that when she doesn't get her way Quite amusing, but we don't let her get away with it.

Re: answering back!?!

Our Lucy (ESS) would snap when she didn't get what she wanted. We were advised by our trainer to ignore it and work on 'being good leaders' i.e: never allowing her to walk in front, feeding her after us, do more obedience training and acting confident and 'alpha dog like' so she understands she is not the boss of this house.

It took a while but it worked!

I hope this is helpful ;-)

Dead center,but "a grumpy".

Not the actual problem, its just not able to speak to communicate, it's perfectly happy, just confused what you want of it, and not grumpy with it at that time, and may only attempt to wander of or run of to play to demonstrate it doesn't want to cooperate if its too confused.

bratish behaviour
Noooo , its a pup - it should be a brat(potentially even a grump)! , only intelligent pups/dogs get ideas into them (THAT A HUMAN WANTS THEM TO HAVE) quickly , even then it requires a fastening period , and its only worth it if the animal is bonded properly(will follow you without a lead and indicates requires your presence if its kept out away by a lead or in another closed room(not simply does not like being contained))!

There are particular instinctive psychological drives dogs have that make them tick , that would be a bit too immense to actually succeed to knock some of the undesirable ones out that quickly rather than make a serious awareness to it of disapproval(and for some time or large quantity of offences first).

Re: answering back!?!

Oh yes Zeus will let everyone know when he doesn't want to do something, it's quite funny because it really is like he's telling ME off! But I am just trying to ignore it and then try again with whatever we were doing. Yesterday morning was a nightmare he couldn't even just sit down without barking about it but by the afternoon it was like butter wouldn't melt, and he was being the best puppy ever! All good fun :-)

Re: answering back!?!

She's hit the teenage months perfectly normal don't let get away with it.

Ignore the whole if you walk in front of your dog, eat before it etc you'll become the dominant alpha dog otherwise she will take over the house . Long long disproven

Re: answering back!?!

Yeah bella does this, but normally only if i'm teaching her something new and she doesn't really get what i'm trying to show her lol Although she always does it when we do an emergency stop, where I call her then about half way tell her to sit, she lets out a bark then
