Advice needed.

Just recently I have noticed that when I walk our dog , off lead, doesn't walk at my side, but starts at one side of me and walks around the back of me and walks the other side, this is constantly whilst walking, he doesn't do anything else. have nearly tripped over him a few times times when he decided to do the same around the front. It's like a constant semi circle.
He used to stay by my side but now has this behaviour. nothing has changed on the walk, routine is pretty much the same. I have had to put him back on the lead where he can only walk to one side.
is there anything I can do to stop this behaviour. Any advice would be great.
Thanks

Lynn

I did wonder too!

OP is he particularly toy motivated?
How do you interact with him when he is offlead on his walks? Or is he just expected to trot along and "be a dog"?

He isn't toy motivated, we can throw a ball/stick and he will just stand and eat grass, and doesn't seem interested in retreiving.

I talk to him about anything we see on the way (ducks etc) and is always happy to meet other dogs/people. He will have a sniff about but doesn't stay to far behind.
he does have some behaviour issues, seperation anxiety is one of them.

Do you always walk him in the same place?

The reason I ask is that I've had two of my collies in the past do the same, one particularly. She found ordinary walks boring and was only happy when she was 'doing' - training, agility, obedience it didn't matter.
