Re: Puppy training class - recommended to use choke collar!

Choke chians r not allowed at our dog club 4 training, I got Rotts and would never use them, I often get asked when out, why I don't have 1 4 Bailey purely coz he's a Rott they think it's common place, I just answer that I put the spade work in using a normal collar and don't feel the need 2 stirng him up in order 2 get him 2 walk on a lead

This trainer reminds me of the film Marley and me when he goes to training class

Re: Puppy training class - recommended to use choke collar!

Our puppy training class does not allow choker chains and the trainer never pulls a lead. The pups are all trained or lured away by using a food treat and all the pups react how she wants them too. I would find another class or carry on with your own training as it sounds as if you are doing well

Re: Puppy training class - recommended to use choke collar!

I never could see the point of the damned things anyway. I used to use one in the old days when it was just the standard thing to have on a big dog, but it never stopped him pulling. He would rather choke himself than stop pulling. I didn't know any better then, just let him get on with it, till the day he pulled me over and broke my wrist. My fingers still aren't straight after fourteen years.

She sounds like a hideous trainer, and I'm glad you're not going back!

Sounds like you're doing a great job with your pup anyway! If you decide to go to other classes, I would ask the trainer if you could watch a class first before you commit to anything and pay upfront... just so you can get and feel and see if it's any good

Where do you live? Someone here could maybe recommend a good training class that uses positive methods.
