Re: Puppy Discipline?
Ok thank you i will i dodnt even see the whole section dedicated to it : ) I plan on doing puppy classes as soon as possible but all the vets say i shouldent even take him outside till he is finished with all his sets of shots.
He has had his first series and now after taking him to the vet and hearing all the things he could catch outside i think he is going to die like everyday. LOL are they really at that much risk right now? Its my first young puppy i wanna learn everything i can. Im afraid to even take him out to go potty!! |

Re: Puppy Discipline?
I replied on your other thread regarding taking him outside
![]() Puppy class is a great way 2 get him out once he's had all his jabs, would also suggest u look at addiitonal classes after puppy class which r more intense 4 training etc, this will ensure u have a well mannered and obedient dog, a must 4 owning a Rottie @) If u haven't already, get a few books on Rottweilers and study their traits as they do go through phases periods, loads of info here but breed specific reading is a great way 2 learn more ![]()

Also get Dr Dunbar's Before and After Your Get Your Puppy for free download from here: Free Downloads | Dog Star Daily Next, some things to think about: first, why is an 8 week old puppy getting to practice getting lots of inappropriate items? Puppy Proofing is a priority for safety and training. Next, you are not teaching your puppy 'drop it' you are intimidating him into carrying out this behaviour. Teach puppy about object exchanges through teaching tug properly. This involved trading items and teaching him that a 'thank you' cue means to get whatever he has out of his mouth cos something better is coming ![]() Make sure that puppy gets lots and lots of redirection to appropriate chew toys so as to turn him into an appropriate-chew-toy-addict. Teach puppy what you want him to do without intimidation and prevent him making mistakes with thorough management. Also check out Socialise Your Puppy Month - daily socialisation and training plans for puppies during critical socialisation. The month is almost over but the plans will remain available.

Re: Puppy Discipline?
When he bites your sleeve, don't raise your voice or shout as it will get him excitable and he will think it is a game as with playbiting. Just ignore him and turn away and he will realise by doing this he loses your attention. By shouting he is getting your full attention which makes it more fun!
You are doing the right thing by giving him a toy. Last edited by ChatterPuss; 26-01-2011 at 09:56 PM.. |
