Over zealous pup or just a pup!!

We have been doing really well with training our 8 month goldie pup. We have her Mum too so not totally new to this.
One thing that is really getting to me is the welcome whenever we come home or someone comes in the door. Both dogs are kept in kitchen when we are out(puppy separated by stair gate as she tends to lick Mums ears). They are perfectly happy and content in here. When I get home either on my own or with kids in tow Amber(the older one) always gives a nice calm welcome but Izzy goes MENTAL...........she runs all over the place she jumps on people even tho I am trying to tell the kids to turn their backs and ignore until she settles a bit but this is not always possible and when kids try to take off shoes etc she knocks them over or puts her paw in their faces etc.
Can't remember all this with Amber but maybe we just worked thro it.
Any ideas or suggestions or is it just a phase we need to work thro?

Re: Over zealous pup or just a pup!!

Once hyped up the more instant attention they get the more whizzier they seem
to become and it becomes a viscious circle. High pitched voices and animated people seem to make them even more so.

I know its not easy with kids as they get exciteable too. I think you are on the right track though. Totally ignore her when you come in and go about your business ,until she has got over the first hyper excitement rush. Then let her out and still ignore her until shes calm, then give attention then, maybe even getting her to sit for a treat. It does take pesistance on your part and consistency, but as I said I think its the right way to go, what you are already doing. Also try not to make a bit thing on leaving either. Just put her in the kitchen and go. That usually helps a bit too.

Thanks for that. I have been getting her to sit and wait when i come in and gradually open the gate waiting on her to sit and wait and give her a treat when she does. but once she has done this the hyperness takes over again so she can rush and see everyone else.
