Play fighting
I have two sberian huskies who are very well behaved but when they start playing sometimes they get carried away, they start play fighting, get too rough and start running and jumping all over the furnature (ruining it) I have no problem with them playing but when they get carried away i have to stop them before something gets broken. Also we have a large garden that they can play in which i would like to leave them in whilst i go out for an hour or two but i cant because they run through wee and jump all over eachother which means i have to bath them which i cannot do almost every day, even if i clean the garden (which is done every day anyway) it is then full of water so they come on soaking wet so i still have basically the same problem. The play fighting happens nearly every day, i walk them every day for over an hour and sometimes even take them out on my bike so i dont think walking is the problem.
Does anyone have any suggestions or have any similar situations? |

Re: Play fighting
I don't let the Mals play for too long and especially they are not allowed to play in the house - ever! They're far too big and can be nutty, lol.
A short play is fine but Flynn and Mart start to show signs of dominance with each other, particularly Flynn as he's a youngster and I can have a fight on my hands. The house is MY domain and they have to respect that - in fact even the little dogs don't play with each other in the house. They are all allowed to play with their toys indoors but no way will I let them wrestle with each other. They're very good actually and indoors is a place of rest or fussing - it's not like your dogs are chihuahua's - you can't allow them to ruin your home and run riot - can you? Set some boundries and when they start to go banana's take one to another room for "time out" for ten mins - if they start when you put them back together do "time out" agian. They'll soon get the message and you'll have two lovely calm dogs to curl up by your feet. Have you seen Raindogs sibes - he's got loads in his house and they're all very well behaved, as they should be. ![]() As for the drinking and weeing - i'd get them tested for diabetes, it's probably not that but i'd test just in case. Also if you feed dry they'll drink more too.

Re: Play fighting
They dont wee on eachother, they do it on the floor outside as usual but if they are play fightng they run through it and jump on eachother and one of them throws herself onto her back and rolls around which makes things worse.
I do not allow them to play fight in the house and they listen to me and recognise me as the leader but my mum looks after them for me when i am at college and they run rings round her which is the point where she makes them go outside and wrestle and again i come home to smelly dogs. They dont go rough enough to hurt eachother and they are inseperable, i used to take them out one at a time on my bike but when i did it i could hear the other one crying and howling down the street. Nothing i seem to do tires them out, i can get in from an hour and a half walk or 45mins on the bike (i take them both at the same time) they will go to sleep for half an hour then its like i never took them out at all. I feed them dry food with a bit of meat mixed in, so it is not too dry for them to eat. The play fightng may just be because they are young, one is 15 months and the other is 7 months, it might pass over but i would just like to know f anyone knew any training i could do or somethng so i dont have to bath them every day ![]() I havent left them outside before because of this problem but i cant even leave them inside because if they start play fighting whilst im out they will break everything and wreck all of the furnature Last edited by bazojay; 23-01-2011 at 06:37 PM.. |
