Re: Play fighting
They are just being normal sibes, they will play really rough and carry on for ages if not stopped, and at this age they also wont know when to quit and will just get more and more hyped if not stopped.
Dont know what sort of fencing and security you have, but I personally wouldnt just leave them out in the garden unsurpervised on their own for long periods, if they decide they are bored with it all, they are more than capable of jumping 6ft fences. Also dog thefts from gardens and in general is on the increase. A lot of sibe owners and especially with those in number usually make them high fenced runs with weldmesh and easily washed down surfaces to play and run in when outside. Which would be a solution although an expensive one. The only way to stop them is to separate them when they start to get too hyped up and leave them to clam down. I have several dog gates around the house for this purpose and security too. A normal baby gate probably wouldnt be high enough. Once they know they can jump be it fence or gate you will have an ongoing problem.

Re: Play fighting
Another thing I forgot to mention is dont let them play wildly or exercise them for an abosolute minimum of an hour preferably longer either side of eating especially as fed on mostly dried food, They can be prone to bloat, and if the gas builds up can go into torsion (ie twisted stomach) that then is a life threatening situation and requires an immediate emergency op.
You should also add warm water to the dried food whether a small amount of meat in it or not.

Re: Play fighting
Oh yes - I forgot we are talking Sibes here and not Mals. I've never owned a Sibe but from what I hear they are much more energetic/agile than Mals - the reason I have Mals, lol!
I know dog gates are pretty high, much higher than baby gates but if they can jump them too perhaps closing doors when out would be an option though personaly i'd use two crates. Having never used a crate before for the Mals I have been amazed at how they all like the one I had to get for Flynn when he had his op. It took a week for Flynn to get to like it and the others just get in when they get the chance. ![]() At least it would give you peace of mind and letting them out seperately to toilet would also stop them rolling in pee. They can still have their play times but only when you allow it and can limit the time.

Re: Play fighting
my garden is quite big, all flagged with 6ft fences and another 2ft of trelace ontop, they cannot get near the gate as there are two sheds across the back fence and another smaller fence with a gate built to prevent them getting out when people are leaving, so the garden is pretty secure and i dont think they will be able to escape.
I would love to be able to trust them in the house on their own and i would seperate them but our kitchen isnt very big but we have a big living room, which would be hard to section off. I think il just wait it out and keep gong as i am untill they are a bit older and hopefully they will calm down a bit or grow out of it. |
