Re: My lab went to say hello, ended up growling, barking and pulling

Hi

What rescue did you get him through?

Have you tried ringing them for help and advice?

Re: My lab went to say hello, ended up growling, barking and pulling

My dog gets over excited by other dogs, so I have a treat ready when ever I see another dog. I also make sure I walk in areas that I can give him space if he needs it. He is perfectly fine when he gets to the other dog and was bitten when he was smaller.

Does your dog do the same as mine?

What do you advise if he's out and starts barking and pulling towards another dog? I would love if he was available for adoption at a younger age, these problems would not be as bad then
If he starts barking and pulling towards another dog, move him away until you can get his attention back onto you, using treats and/or a toy. At home you can teach 'watch me' where he has to look into your face for a treat. Gradually you should be able to be closer to other dogs and still be able to use 'watch me'. Is he your first dog?

He is my first dog in a few years. First labrador though :-)

brought him out last night and my friend brought out his collie. He pulled but didn't bark, but the two dogs played all night. As suggested previously, he is indeed just being a lab puppy. I'm delighted now :-)
