When can he go outside?
I'm not sure what to do?
I have just got my little male chihuahua he is 16wks this Saturday but he hasn't had his vaccinations yet. The lady I got him from had kept him and his brother longer as they were very small and didn't want to give them to new home before Christmas. She didn't vaccinate as feels that it's better that both are done by the same place. He is getting his first jab on Friday. I have a ground floor flat with a garden for my sole use where he will be able to use for his toilet and play etc., The thing is there are foxes in the area that come into the garden and also a neighbours cat keeps coming into the garden. Can I take him out just outside the door to try and train him or do I need to wait till after the 2nd injection? I'm worried that by the time both injections are done he will be too set in his ways using the pads (which he often forgets about, lol). Advice needed here please? ![]() |

Re: When can he go outside?
MY UNDERSTANDING is that your pup should only go into areas where you are confident no unvaccinated animal has been until about 1 week after the last jab.
It is unfortunate that the breeder opted not to do this themselves... especially given that you took your pup home at 16 weeks. Flo was the other extreme, he was fully vaccinated at 8 weeks leaving only his 16 week parvo for me to do. |

Re: When can he go outside?
That is absolutely crazy
Your dog is now out of his critical socialisation period and is of a type that takes a little more socialisation work anyway so has had minimal exposure to the thousands of things he needs ![]() Ok rant over - please bring your little man out with you EVERYWHERE, just carry him. Make sure to read him carefully as overwhleming exposure at this stage in his development can be just as disastrous as no exposure. Get his vax done as soon as you possibly can.
