Re: any tips for a car sick beagle ?

You can get both from Vet Medic Vet-Medic - the same medicines as your vet at consistently low prices., although I think pets at home do the DAP products not sure about the travel drops though.

Re: any tips for a car sick beagle ?
As a person who is travel sick and a dog walker I find having cool air con on all the time and pointing towards the dogs helps. I've never had a throw up!
Take the driving easy and don't be over enthusiastic with the clutch! Make sure they have eaten a good hour or so before they travel - empty stomachs are unsettled stomachs. If you get stuck in traffic the stop/start makes it worse. If you are still worried - a bit of honey or jam will help boost their blood sugar. (Not for diabetics obviously!) Make sure they have had a drink before they go - dehydration makes it worse.

Re: any tips for a car sick beagle ?
Have you tried getting her gradually used to being in the car? Like maybe driving up and down the road, stopping the car, taking her out then putting her back in and repeating and building up the time gradually? This is how I did it with Louie as he was incredibly car sick. I think a lot of the time, like with humans and carsickness, it is a matter of getting the dog used to it rather than putting the dog in the car, driving for ages and expecting them to be used to it instantly.

Re: any tips for a car sick beagle ?
Some say the anti static strips that hang down from the car at the back work wonders for it.
My Mum has a Tibetan Spaniel who was horribly car sick and she solved it rather embarrassingly (for us anyway) by putting a baby carry cot wedged between the front and back seat which he sat in (with his car harness on). I think maybe it was because he could see out but it stopped it instantly. She used it for a couple of years but not anymore as he seems to have grown out of it........................... I wish I'd grow out of it, I still get horribly car sick unless I'm driving :-( Last edited by sherbert dip; 20-01-2011 at 09:27 PM.. |
