Need Help Toilet Training
Hi, im needing some help to toilet train my dog for outside, she has been doing it fine on the mats in the house, but shes now nearly 6 months and i really want her doing it outside but im finding it hard to do. Ive removed the mat a week ago and been taking her out every 3 hours a day and 10mins after she has eating i have also took away her water at night, she was peeing outside but wouldint poo and then she done a poo but will not pee now and since today she has done nothing yet, shes just constantly picking up things from the grass and trying to eat it which she wasnt doing, another thing ive noticed is when im out she wont do the toilet in the house but not saying thats a bad thing but when im at home she will.
Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Need Help Toilet Training
I thnk you need to be taking her more than every 3 hours.. My pupster is 6 months too and he tells me he wants to go out at least once an hour

Re: Need Help Toilet Training
6mths is quite old to be starting toilet training. If she has been in the habit of doing it on traning pads for this length of time it is going to take quite a bit of time and patience. Training pads confuse and give mixed messages its ok to go in the house
if she feels like it. Start from scratch. Remove all the pads. You will need to take her out every 30/45 minutes. When she starts to go give it a name (They eventually associate the name with the action and you can use it as a toilet cue and even get them to toilet on command later on) When finished you need to praise and reward with a treat. They also need to be taken out after drinking, eating, playing and sleeping. Look out for circling sniffing and maybe even scratching at the floor usually a sign they are looking for somewhere to go. if you see this take her out. If she has accidents then dont tell her off, it can make them nervous about going in front of you. clean them up with a special cleaner for pet accidents as any smells left are more likely to encourage to go in the same area. At night is she sleeps within sight and sound of you take her out if she wakes or stirs, If not set an alarm and take her out in the night. You need to be consistant eventually she should get the message that outside is the place to go, if you give her outside as the only option with reward when she does then she should get the message. Hope this helps.
