Ideas for new trick?

Can anyone give me a new trick and how to teach it to my Parson JRT. He loves learning and he can do sit, down, wait, spin, speak, high five with both paws and shake with one paw at a time. I'd like to try 'back up' or maybe sit with front paws in the air. any ideas please. thank you

What about a nose touch? Great behaviour to teach for focus type training (hand touches) and you can shape it so that the dog eventually shuts doors with his nose on cue:

Re: Ideas for new trick?

How about send away? Have the dog sit and wait next to you, throw a treat a good distance and then send the dog to get it, adding in the away command. Once that's polished you can send him away, and do distance training- work on getting him to sit/stay/down at a distance, or mid run. Great for emergencies- if the dog is running towards something it shouldn't and recall fails, you can ask him to do an emergency sit/stay/down.

If he already knows spin (one way) you can teach him to spin the other way with a different command. I use spin for a clockwise spin, and twist for an anti-clockwise spin.

Or you could try crawl, wave, tidy up (put toys in a basket), walking on hind legs, bow down or refuse (have the dog lying down, place a treat on each paw and tell him to leave).

Use your imagination I love teaching tricks to my Alfie and Blue- they enjoy it and so do I

Re: Ideas for new trick?

How about standing up, then get him turning round like a bally dancer ? I taught that to my dog Chewie in my avatar, he loved it. I taught him many other one off neat tricks that are classified as secret

Re: Ideas for new trick?

Why don't you try teaching him a smart game.

Get your dog to learn the names of different toys and fetch them to you for a reward. Eventually you'll be able to hide them round your house, and get the dog to fetch them all to you for a fun (for them) and easy (for you) game.
