Re: training older dog

Of course you can still train an older dog. They may not learn as quickly as a puppy, and you will need more patience, but they are intelligent animals and can still learn.

Re: training older dog

I have proved it time and time again, you can teach old dogs new tricks. When it comes to people stuck in their old ways, well thats another story

An old dog may take more work or longer but it can be done.

Re: training older dog

You can teach a dog of any age. My Westie is 8 (his birthday today) and I'm still teaching him new tricks almost weekly.

Re: training older dog

It will take longer probably than a pup, but yes it is possible. Reward based training with treats is best. High value treats to dogs are usually, cheese, chicken, hotdogs and liver cake. Keep these only for training find the thing that he/she really likes. Then all you need is time and patience as I said being older they may take a bit longer to get the concept. I cant see any problems though.
