embarrassing problem

Hi everyone I found this site whilst looking for some advice on my new dog so hoping someone can help I will start at the beginning.
Sadly before christmas I had my 15 year bitch put to sleep after she had cancer.
Two days ago I brought a cute bitch 10wk old pup from a breeder. As it was miles away my husband went to collect her with a friend, He also brought back a 14 month old boy with the idea that we could breed them when the bitch is old enough. This is were my problems start the 14 month boy has not been house trained or trained at all for that matter the breeder had him in kennels for two months and before that he supposing came from a family of seven children. I am working on this using advice from the forums here especially for his peeing everywhere. My main problem is yesterday a friend arrived with furry boots the dog tried humping the boots and wouldnt leave her alone until she took them off. Last night after a walk and our first proper day together within a few minutes of getting home I noticed he was standing funny there was blood on the floor I looked to see if he had cut his paw and saw that it was because he had a huge erection this was where the blood was dripping from. I have never had a boy dog before so panicked and phoned the breeder he said this was normal? After half an hour or so it went down. This morning the same thing has happened again with clear stuff dripping this time( I know what this is lol) do I really have to put up with this every time we have been for walk its embarrassing and not very nice to see what can I do?

Re: embarrassing problem

I too think he needs to see a vet. Erections are normal in dogs, but not when blood is involved and I would guess that would cause him a lot of pain.

Also, and I know this isn't what you joined for, but what lines are the dog and bitch? Are they from same litter parents? Because there's really no need to be breeding anyway, but definately not related dogs.

Re: embarrassing problem

Hi thanks for the quick advice it was the breeder who said it was normal. I am booked in for the vets at 12.15 today after reading this. They are not related the breeder had only had the boy two months he said the dog came from a family before that and they sold the dog to him for breeding purposes although he hadnt yet been studded. I was not even going to think about breeding them until the bitch is a couple of years old. The bitch is a papillion x yorkie and the boy is a papillion x chuchuwa

Before you do decide to breed them just think about the dog that gets pts every hour because there is no home for it

Re: embarrassing problem

I really do hope your dog gets better but why on earth do you want to breed them when there are dogs having to be killed everyday because no one wants them??

For what reason do you want to breed these dogs?

I don't mean to be rude but as the previous poster said you should really have a think carefully about why you want to breed them when there is a already a huge problem with abandoned dogs.

I have to agree with everything said here ....

If you decide to keep male entire, you will likely have ongoing problems with marking and humping and no doubt an "accidental litter" bitches first season ...

Better have boy neutered now and bitch spayed as soon as appropriate. Why not simply keep them as treasured little companions rather than breeding propositions? Just love them to bits and enjoy them as companions please ...

As I have always said, never trust a man to do anything. This sounds serious to me, and you could end up having to get him neutered for medical reasons. Please let us know what the vet says.
