Unhappy agression when tied up

hi, i have a labrador bitch called ebony(spayed)shes 4 years9 months, we have a problem with her when we tie her up,( i like to take her when i pick up the kids from school )and she isnt allowed in the play ground, so i tie her to the fence, when i leave she just barks until i get back, but when people approach her she gets agressive and lunges at them, (its people who she knows and sees regularly). ive stopped tieing her up and just wait at the side of the play ground for the kids but i know thats not addressing the problem, she is a fantastic dog in every other respect, also we have her daughter gracie who is 9 months and she has started to copy her mother, ebony did this before gracie came along . i would love to be able to take them to the shop/school and tie them up but it really puts me off.(gracie just barks she isnt agressive)ebony had a litter of pups last november and was spayed in march this year, she has calmed down a little. any advice on this would be great

Re: agression when tied up

It is probable that she is showing signs of fear agression. If she is tied up alone, she wil feel vulnerable as she would not be able to get away from a percieved threat.

I wouldn't worry about it, as it is inadvisable to leave her tied up alone. More and more dogs are stolen all the time, so it is best not to leave her unsupervised.

i have to agree with jackson, if your kids can'tfind you if you stand justoutside the gates then you should probably leave her at home and take her out when you'v got home again?

Re: agression when tied up

I wouldn't leave her tied up alone, she sound as though she is scared when tied up. Lots of dogs get stolen when tied up outside shops and other places, so i would leave her in the house if you can't take her in the playground. You would be heartbroken if she was stolen or if she bit someone and had to be pts, so i think you shouldn't put her in that position.

I had a mongrel when I was a kid and my mum used to walk to school with her to meet me, she was the softest, gentlest, well behaved dog you could meet, but as soon as she went near the school, she got really stressed out and tried to pull away, and had a growl at people coming near her. So my mum used to meet me up the road a bit, think it was the volume of kids and adults flooding out the gates that done it, she had never growled at anyone before and never did again

Re: agression when tied up

I agree with the others I would never leave my dog unattended tied up in a public place. Apart from the fact that your girl doesn't like it and it frightens her, what if she did bite someone, any dog no matter the temperament will bite if they feel threatened enough, after all its all they've got, they can't phone the police, shout for help or send a solicitors letter.

Re: agression when tied up

i dont really like dogs tied up, but some cases you may have to like going in to the shop, the barking could be what jackson said a bit of fear, or maybe seperation from you.
