Jaspers .. Issues

He Has Always Respected Me And Everything But Today While I Was Clipping His Coat He Wouldnt Turn The Other Way Around So I Turned The Clippers Of And Went To Turn Him To The Other Side And He Growled At Me ?

I Then Told Him Off And He Showed His Teeth And Growled So I Put His Muzzle On And Turned The Clippers On And I Went To Hold His Head Out Of The Way ( I Was Clipping His Chest And His Head Got In The Way ) And He Snapped At Me ( He Has His Muzzle On ) And I Just I Dont Know What Happened ? Or Anything Anyway I Told Him Off And Carried On Clipping Him And After I Bathed Him No Problem And He Is By My Feet Now Asleep And Drying Off . He Never Did This Before , And He ALWAYS Listens To My Mom He Compleltey Loves Her But She Dosent Spoil Him Or Anything But He Like Craves Her Attention - I Cook His Meals - I Feed Him - I Groom Him - I Walk Him - I Teach Him New Things - And I Play Fetch With Him In The Garden But He Adores Mum .. If Mom Is Downstaires He Is There Too , Mums On The Balcony Jaspers There , Everywhere He Follows Her Butt .. Yes I Am Slightly Jelouse ! But I Am Just Wondering Why He Does This ? Like What Does She Have That I Dont lol ! And Why On Earth Did He Act Up Today When I Was Grooming Him And When I Actually Told Him Off He Snapped ?!

Thanks So Much If You Can Help

Re: Jaspers .. Issues

It sounds like that he needs a bit of socializing with other people and other dogs to get the bonding of him and your mum reduced.
It is always nice if a dog bonds with a person but as you have found out it can have dire consequences.

Is there anyway that you can be around the dog without your mum being around as well say for a day or two, this way the dog will only associate itself to you, it will pine of course but it will learn. You are going to have to be strong and your mum is also going to have to be strong and a bit negative in her attitude and behaviuor towards the dog but you must also show a positive masterful attitude. Do not let the dog see that you are afraid or weary as it will increase its dominance of you.

I hope this helps

Re: Jaspers .. Issues

Here Goes - Nope No Other Dogs To Socialise Him With ( I Live In Turkey And Im Not Letting My Next Doors Puppy Near Him Because They Dont De Flea Him Or De Worm Him .. And He Is Kept On The Streets )

And Not Really Any Other People To Socialise Him With Either

But He Is Fine With Other People And Dogs And He Listens To Other People He Knows , I Have A One Year Old Baby Cousin And Jasper Gets On Fine With Him And Is Extremly Careful Around Him And Everything .

Jasper Listens To Me All The Time - He Is Fine Off Lead When I Walk Him ( With And Without My Mom ) , And Before I Give Him His Food I Make Him Sit And Wait And Then Tell Him He Can Have It .. , And We Do Agility Together .

So Its Not Like Jasper Dosent Listen To Me . He Does When Mum And Dad Go Out Come And Liedown By My Feet , When Mum Goes Away Somewhere He Follows My Butt Everywhere Like He Does With My Mom . My Mom Dosent Spoil Jasper At All And She Isnt Cuddling Him Every Minuete .. She Occasionaly Strokes Him When She Is Watching TV And He Is Lieing Down On The Floor And She Feeds Him Every Now And Then , Thats Really It . Im Not Afraid Or Weary Of Jasper At All I Can Gently Push Him Over And Make Him Liedown On His Back , I Can Poke Him ... I Can Do Anything And He Dosent Mind . It Was Just The Other Day When I Was Grooming Him He Was Like Moody And Bored Of Standing Up .. And He Played And Acted Out It Was So Unlike Him ..

Re: Jaspers .. Issues

Maybe Jasper was having a bit of an off day thats why he acted out of character. I'm sure if I had a bit of a headache and someone started shaving my head I'd snap a bit

My mum and step-dad used to have a staffie male. He had lived with my step-dad from a pup and moved in with my mum when he was about 13 years old, he didn't know her before then, she didn't feed him, didn't walk him, didn't particulary do anything with him. She just saw him as my step-dads dog that now lived with them......

Anyhow Sam (dogs name) absolutely loved my mum and followed her everywhere. Noone ever did figure out why mum ended up the favourite even though my step-dad did everything for him and at the time my sister and I still lived at home and played with Sam and walked him etc, but when my mum was there noone got a look in. Don't know whether its because my mum was the boss at home and he saw her somehow as top dog? They are funny creatures lol

I agree it just sounds as if he was having an off day. See how he is next time he needs clipping.

Re: Jaspers .. Issues

have you taken him to see a vet, if he was in pain the clipping may have irritated that and it could have been hurting him. was it just when you wre clipping a certain part of him??
