Random Barking!

Hi,

Over the last week or so my Bullmastiff has been barking every time we go to sit down on the sofa and watch TV! It's driving us nuts!

He'll just stand there and bark and then pretend to bite the sofa or try and jump up on it, we tell him no but he still just barks and runs around the lounge......i'm not sure what to do or why he's doing it!

Any help?

Just sounds like he's playing and trying to entice you to start a game to me!

Re: Random Barking!

How much exersise is he getting? He probably just wants attention, and as you are saying no to him he is sort of getting it..
He could be bored, so maybe before you go to watch tv in the evening play some games.. teach him a new trick or something... and make sure he gets enough exersise off the lead each day.

Re: Random Barking!

Hi,

Thanks for your replies.

Deefa will do this every nite at aroud 7:30-9ish...without fail!

Like tonight, i've taken him to the park and he's had a run around and played with other dogs. We come home...he sleeps....gets up and then we play in the garden and do some training.

Then....he'll knap and i'll sit down...when he gets up he'll come in and bark and have a crazy 5 mins!

Im having him neutered on September 10th...do you think he might change after this? I just cant see that its because he's not eing enough attention/playtime/walks thats all.

Thanks

Re: Random Barking!

How much time do you spend exercising him.

I only ask because my little lad is exactly the same if I have to cut his time down. It really is as though he's saying that wasn't enough.

Provided I feel his walks were adequate and the time I have spent with him is sufficient and its now my turn to chill I will put him in the kitchen for a shortwhile to calm down and bring him back in with us. Oh he sulks but it works, he does get petted and cuddled just the same but without the noise.

Re: Random Barking!

I have never owned a bullmastif but i have alot of experience with large and x large breeds and they need at least half an hour in the morning... and then afternoon/evening at least an hour (off lead).

Re: Random Barking!

He does get that but he can only have 1/2 hour walks at a time as he's only 7 months.

I think rather than a mid afternoon walk i'll take him for an evening one now.

Thanks
