How much is too much exercise for a ........

In one session, 7month old robust Springer Spaniel x Cocker Spaniel boy pup!
I've just been out wiv ozzie and i think ive found how long he can go out for! I have been out wiv him for an hour and a half, wiv 2 15min breaks in between, where we sat at a bench and he had water and a rest! I always take water and dish, and dry food wiv me for him! I checked his pads when i got back and they were gr8!
He is now flat out asleep, not heavy panting just normal, so i think ive found his requirements, but am worried if it may be too much!

Re: How much is too much exercise for a ........

5 mins per day per month of age up until a year old, preferably split into 2-3 walks. So 35 minutes per day maximum.

Any longer and you risk damaging his joints/hip dysplacia. which you need ot be especially careful of if his parents aren't hip/elbow scored. (Not saying they aren't, but it is more likely in a cross breed)

hi,I suggest you to reduce the physical activity, you should see him after of all only a little tired, and also it's very important to avoid of giving food 2 hours before and after the physical activity, and of course during it. I's very dangerous!! bye fom a vet friend.

yes, 2 hours or more if the dog has had a normal meal, less time if it has been only snack.all this is necessary to respect the digestion process time, and to avoid some problems like gastric dilatation-volvulus,mostly for a large size breed. Sorry for my english!!

Thanks for that, I have a deep chested breed so more prone to bloat so we always try to carry out best practices to avoid it. If they now need to wait 2 hours then so be it

Re: How much is too much exercise for a ........

Rule of thumb tends to be 5 mins per month of age as previous post states.

My dog is a SBT by 7 months we were hiking. I wasn't a member of this forum at that time. I would say it depends on the dog but no more than three quarters of an hour.

My dog use to let me know when he had had enough - poor beggar had to.

Re: How much is too much exercise for a ........

My dogs are Rotts and they are prone to bloat so I dont feed them for an hour before exercise or an hour after
