Re: Van chasing & horse visiting
Walk at a distance around the field. Get him to sit every so often, like you did with the bench and vehicals, and say, first few mins he stays sat and doesn't try anything - give a treat. then walk a bit more.
Each day or so get a slight bit closer and to be sat that bit longer. Do becareful to not let him in the field, you don't want your dog being kicked and you don't really want to be the problem of the horses becoming scared of dogs. That happened to my mums horse - the owner wasn't paying attention - their little dog ran out and started nipping his legs etc and then was petrified from then on. But I have known of other horses just booting the dog... |

Thanks for advice, I'll try that.
I agree completely about horses, luckily he hasn't jumped and nipped YET (!) He's always taken an interest but never used to run off to join them. Do you think it is his age? Feel like I'm having to start again with some training, he's also taken to frogging in garden. It takes ages to get him in for bed as he's having a brilliant time. Luckily no dead frogs yet but poor things must be terrified. ![]() |

Yes - better stear clear of anyone with a pond!
Took him back to training last night and it wasn't very good!! (to say the least). He seems to have reverted back to how he was months ago! Oh well.............. Asked about visiting horses and trainer suggested getting something brilliant (eg squeaky toy) and only using it on walks so if he appears to get distracted (which is practically all the time on walks!) use to get his attention so its a lot more interesting than whatever he's spotted. Try this on long lead near horse fields etc until he always comes back. Think we'll be trying this for a long time!! Still not sure if change is down to age OR .... he was castrated a couple of weeks ago (vets advice). Has anyone had this reaction after op? ![]() |

Re: Van chasing & horse visiting
just read this to my mum (and laughed at the froggies)
She said - it is his age, because he is so young, its like a young child - they forget things quickly. The squeaky toy sounds a good thing. The op shouldn't be the reason, but they all react differently. My mum and I request a picture ^___^ |
