Re: beagle help!

Lots of stimutaion - play, training and walks should help.
I would say he's doing the "Puppy wall of Death" a about 8pm mine do this for a good half hour - they just run around the house in and out the garden and jump on and off the furniture like mad things. It doesn't matter if we've just come in from a 2 hour walk along the beach they still do it!
I was so concerned they wern't getting enough excersise I asked my trainer and she said most puppies run the "Wall of Death" every evening.

Re: beagle help!

tried an old t-shirt tug of war game in the garden last night which tired him out well. thanks for the advice on that one mrsdusty . i am struggling a little to find other things to stimulate him though. sometimes he is easily occupied by me playing with his toys with him and then other times he just dont seem bothered. any suggestions for good toys etc or other good activities to stimulate him and tire him out??????

just a quick note. we are limited to the house and the garden as he has only had his first injection so long walks are out of the question for the next couple of weeks. many thanks

Re: beagle help!

Have you started some basic training with him yet - this could help wear his mind out as well as his body.

Also Beagles love to use their noses so some hide the treat games would wear his mind out a bit.

Have you tried a dog food activity ball? - such as a buster cube - you fill it with their dry dog food and pup has to roll it around to get his food, keeps their mind and body active.

I hated it when I couldn't take mine out before their injections it was so fustrating for us all. Do you take him out for a walk carrying him? as this is a good was to socialise him with the world - also like I said if you wear out their mind they tend to be calmer.

Sound like things are getting better - Well done - and I hope you have lots of fun together for many years to come.

Re: beagle help!

Sounds like the pup is having a mad half hour to me. All of my dogs have done it and Id be very upset if they didn't. I think its great fun. Theres nothing wrong with it as long as noones being knocked over. Only thing I can think of is taking him on a stupidly long walk. Some pups will grow out of it however the peterpans among them wont. id lust enjoy it while you can. as for leaving the dog alone for 3-4 hours, i shouldnt worry about that either, if they get used to it while they are pups then they should have no problems when they are older. Many dogs love being alone to rest and escape the nightmare that is humans. Mine do.
