Too old to do crate training?

Hello.

Crate training, slowly moving a dog, usually a puppy away from the owner.

Well, sunny is now just over 2 years old. Had him for over 3 months and all the time slept in mum and dads room. I've heard crate training is to let the dog know the it's ok to be away from the owner.

I thought I might try this on sunny. We don't have a crate but tonight sunny is sleeping in my room. He does whimper and cry at times but I just ignore him and do my own thing. He has access to water. I want him to get used to not being around my mum.

Is it ok what I am doing now and is it ok for him to be trained like this at his age?

Re: Too old to do crate training?

i've heard you can train any dog anything you want to , no matter what their age is
It just depends on the patience of the person doing the training

Re: Too old to do crate training?

I would say yes you can train a dog at any age, if they are older i suppose it might take them a bit longer to accept the new changes but they can do it
We crate trained our Lurcher 3 years ago when he was 9 years old and he was fine. Reassurance is the main thing i think so your dog feels secure and safe when you are training
