I agree with a lot of opinions already expressed here.
I think it's a combination of: Really good conditioning/training Lots of socializing Dogs natural desire to please Stable environment Mutual respect Good communication Adequate exercise - the dog of course  Leadership Not forgetting love

I dont know why mine do as I ask - being the breed they are occasionally I get the 'whats in it for me' look - or even the 'why are we doing it' look - but mostly they follow instructions when they are given. Perhaps it's just cos it makes me happy, and I make sure I tell them when they've done it right
