need some excitement

I have a six year old entire male and he is soo boring. Nothing I do gets him excited and playful for more then ten seconds. My other dog is the complete opposite but I know exactly how to calm him down once iv had enough. I love over excitable dogs as they make life so much more interesting. I want a dog that jumms up and plays with me but i've tried everything that would usually be done to make a dog play. Does anyone have any ideas??

I have one giddy kipper and one steady Eddie - and thats just the way they are made. Just enjoy the excitement from your bouncy dog and learn to love the peace your older boy enjoys

Re: need some excitement

The over excitable one is a rottie and the lazy bugger is a ridgeback, he used to love to play but the last year or so he just cant be botherd for more then five mins and that doenst happen very often. He wont even play fetch or with a football which he used to love. He plays with the rottie a couiple of times a day but never with us, although hes always up for a cuddle. Its not really a problem Iv just really been in the mood for one of our old games lately, I miss it. I just wanted to get him excited and playful for once. Oh well ill have to live without I suppose.

Re: need some excitement

Just a thought - if he used to be playful and he's slowed down have you had him to the vets lately - I dont wanna scare ya to death but sometimes certain heart problems can lead to a slow down - might be worth popping along just for them to have a listen to him

Re: need some excitement

He has had a general check up not so long back and he got the all clear, they listened to his heart so im hoping its nothing like that, hes had several general checks since he started slowing down anyways. I thought it was just his age, he has slowed down over a couple of years so I wouldnt have thought it would have been anything bad. And he does play with the other dog often, it just seems to be us. He has turned into a grumpy old man, he moans a lot and he is going grey. Poor man. I love him the way he is, it would just be so nice to have him play again. Im gonna keep trying im sure ill crack him eventually.
